10 Interesting Indian Wedding Beliefs and Superstitions

10 Interesting Indian Wedding Beliefs and Superstitions

Most of us are aware about beliefs related to the colour of mehendi on the bride’s hands. The darkness of the mehendi colour on her hand shows the deep love and respect she will receive from her husband and mother-in-law!

Indian wedding is a grand affair where every ritual, pre and post wedding, hold a special importance. That is why every possible measure is taken to ward off the ‘buri nazar’ (evil eye), to make sure that the newlyweds have a blissful life together. In many parts of India, there are a number of popular beliefs and superstitions related to weddings, which have been passed on from one generation to another.
1. Spill the milk: In the wedding households, it is important to observe precautions, even while boiling milk. During this time, family members must be careful while boiling milk. It is said that spilling of milk before or after the big day signals towards some pending misfortune.

2. Curb your creative instincts: If you are planning to design your own wedding dress to show your creative side, it is best to retract your decision. It is considered to be unlucky for the would-be-bride and groom to design their wedding dresses.
3. Lenders and borrowers: Well, if you are thinking about lending your dress to someone else then give it a second thought. Although, for the borrower it might bring some good luck. But, this generosity of yours might bring bad omen for you.
4. Match your earings: Make sure to wear earrings on your big day because it is considered quite auspicious. Not only this, even newly married women should wear earings as they are supposed to fill your married life with happiness.
5. Let the kaleerein fall: In the north Indian customs, brides wear a ‘chooda’ on which her family members and friends tie kaleerein (red and golden ornaments). After this the bride moves her hand over the head of the unmarried girls in her family. It is said that if kaleerein falls on someone’s head, then that girl will be next in the line to get married.

8. Flaunt your cooking skills: In many parts of India, a week before the wedding it is customary for the bride-to-be along with seven other married women to make small balls of “chana dal” (lentil balls). These balls are then sent to the groom’s house. It is a sign to ensure that his kitchen always stays filled with food at all times.
9. Don't light candles: It is also believed that if the candles lit during your wedding start to sputter out then it is not a good sign. It means that an evil spirit is nearby.
10 Hit the couple: Throwing rice at the couple during their wedding is considered to be auspicious. It is a sign of abundance and fertility and a way to protect the newlyweds from the veil spirits.

Ghanchakkar is one of the most unusual comedies

Movie Review: 'Ghanchakkar' is one of the most unusual comedies

Movie Review: `Ghanchakkar` is one of the most unusual comedies

Starring Emraan Hashmi, Vidya Balan, Rajesh Verma, Namit Das

Directed by Rajkumar Gupta

He is a lazy lazy lad. And she is one helluva crazy Punjaban whose kookie cooking drives her sullen husband up the nearest wall.

Disgust on the dining-table camouflaged in tons of table-salt, Sanju (Emraan Hashmi, pitch-perfect in his spousal indolence) would probably have gone on tolerating his wife's appalling culinary skills matched only by her hideous fashion sense, if only he didn't decide to pull off one last heist that would make him and his inept cook of a wife rich for the rest of their life.

Take-home food, here we come!

Oh, I forgot to tell you. . . . Hashmi plays an expert lock-picker, the kind of safe-bet who can crack safes faster than we can say 'Saif Ali Khan'.

Forgetfulness comes easily in this crazily unpredictable dark comedy about an ordinary Delhi couple's life going unimaginably out-of-control when they decide to mess around with two self-styled bumbling baddies who seem to have modelled their crime life on pirated video prints of Guy Ritchie and Quentin Tarantino crime flicks. Really, they suck at their job.

Every character in this out-of-the-box comedy is a bit of an ineffectual self-important clown. In trying hard to be cool, they end up looking like fools. And they don't even know it!

Ghanchakkar is a domestic comedy that gets progressively dark and sinister. Some of the film's most riveting moments find our amnesiac hero searching for his own identity and trying to locate the trust factor in his marriage that is threatened by his lack of cogent memory.

Director Rajkumar Gupta is the master of straight-faced whimsy. There are no LOL moments in Ghanchakkar. The humour is the kind that hits you in hindsight.

Characters such as Pravin Dabas ('Jo hero jaisa dikhta hai') keep popping up for no seeming purpose. But then we begin to realize the plot's larger design is to tell us that there is no real larger design in life. Very often things happen haphazardly and inexplicably because that's the way life is.

The characters and situations in Ghanchakkar are neither relatable or particularly likeable. You really don't want to run into these people even for fun. It's that quality of unbearable selfcentredness that makes the characters so unique in their painful commonness.

Many chunks of Gupta's storytelling seem excessively quirky capturing in languid motions, the vagaries of everyday life without whipping up an over-punctuated drama either through the background score or fancy editing patterns. Setu's camera looks at Mumbai's middleclass with affectionate disdain, not judgemental but certainly not aloof either.

Some ongoing gags, like the Namit Das character's phone-sex and the guy on the local train returning home with vegetables for his wife who is repeatedly intimidated by Namit Das, just don't hold together. That maybe because this is not comic cinema as we know and acknowledge it.

Rajkumar Gupta creates a world high on eccentricity in the uncaring city. If the truth be told. we've never seen anything like this film before.

Gupta's third film is wacky whimsical dark scrumptious and though not as lightly humorous as your average comedy, wonderfully innovative in the sparing use of dramatic devices including music. Its sinister thrusts specially towards the end eat ravenously into the comedy.

This may not work for those who are comically regaled by the Gol Maal series or even the wacky wit of Fukrey. The comedy in Ghanchakkar is entirely reliant on the principal characters' ability to penetrate and make sense of the squalid world of greed and acquisitiveness that they seem to inhabit so casually.

The film's heist-quotient is substantially sustained and aggrandized by the crackling hissing and snarling chemistry between the bold and fearless Balan and the endearingly restrained and under-the-top Hashmi.

Their mutual suspicion of one another's marital integrity is delightfully irreverent and yet disturbingly relevant in today's times when distrust is a dowry gift in a majority of marriages.

In their delightful love-making sequence Gupta and his astute co-writer Parvez Shiekh turn the politics of the bedroom on its head. Hashmi appears seductively at the bedroom door wearing the night-wear that his wife has brought him. . . Underwears and condoms are shyly mentioned. What follows is funny and, er, unforgettable.

The incidental characters appear unannounced. . . . an inquisitive neighbour, an over-friendly real-estate agent, a nosy mother/mother-in-law whom we only hear on the phone, a sinister crimelord who pops out of nowhere to create an illusion of a climax, and an end-game on a local train that could have been more sharply rounded off. . . . But then all said and dumped Ghanchakkar is nothing like anything we've encountered in the genre of dark comedy.

Depicting the scary but savagely funny underbelly of the Great Indian Middleclass' consumerist caprices Ghanchakkar gives Vidya Balan another chance after Kahaani and The Dirty Picture to create an unorthodox heroine.

You may not think much of her loud attitude to life. But then you have to hand it to Vidya for staying constantly unpredictable in her characterizations.

Emraan Hashmi seems to instinctively grasp his forgetful character's obstinacy and anxieties. He brings calm to the breathless proceedings.

Ghanchakkar may not be every moviegoer's cup of tee-hee. The laughs are often so ominous they cloud our comic responses to the characters. For instance in the bank-heist sequence Emraan Hashmi, Rajesh Verma and Namit Das wear Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra and Uptal Dutt masks. In the police-identification line-up that follows three men show up in the same star-masks.

`Haan, yehi teenon they, ` says the excited bank watchman.

Really now!If Jessica had not been killed in Rajkumar Gupta's last film she would have died laughing watching Ghanchakkar. This comedy of arrears, monstrous arrears, is quite simply one of the most unusual comedies in. . . er, living memory.

2013 Raksha Bandhan

Raksha Bandhan is celebrated in Shravana month during full moon day or Purnima day.

The best time to tie Rakhi on Raksha Bandhan is during Aparahan which is late afternoon according to Hindu division of the day. If Aparahan time is not available then Pradosh time is also suitable to perform rituals related to Raksha Bandhan.

Raksha Bandhan rituals should not be done during Bhadra. Bhadra is malicious time which should be avoided for all auspicious work. Most Hindu religious texts, including Vratraj, advise to avoid Bhadra time to tie Rakhi during Raksha Bandhan festival.

It should be noted that Bhadra prevails during first half of Purnima Tithi. Hence one should wait for Bhadra to get over before starting any auspicious work. In North India it is customary to tie Rakhi in the morning which might not be suitable time to do it. The DrikPanchang's team believes that it might be due to ignorance. When such information is easily available one should avoid tying Rakhi during Bhadra.

Some sources advise to avoid Bhadra Mukha and perform Rakhi ceremony during Bhadra Punchha if it has to be done during Bhadra in early morning. However our team was not able to find any authority to validate this belief.

To avoid doing Rakhi ceremony at an inauspicious time it is advisable to check some Panchang likeDrikPanchang.com to find the right time to perform it. We list all Shubh timings which are available to tie Rakhi for most cities across the globe.

SAWAAR LOON Song Lyrics Lootera

Hawa Ke Jhonke Aaj Mausamo Se Rooth Gaye
Gulon Ki Shookhiyaan Jo Bhawre Aa Ke Loot Gaye
Badal Rahi Hai Aaj Zindagi Ki Chaal Zara
Isi Bahane Kyun Na Main Bhi Dil Ka Haal Zara
 Sawaar Loon Haye Sawaar Loon
 Sawaar Loon Haye Sawaar Loon
Baramde Purane Hain, Nayi Si Dhoop Hai
Jo Palkein Khatkhta Raha Hai, Kiska Roop Hai
Sharartein Kare Jo Aise, Bhool Ke Hizaab
Kaise Usko Naam Se, Main Pukaar Loon
 Sawaar Loon Haye Sawaar Loon
 Sawaar Loon Haye Sawaar Loon
Yeh Sarre Koyalein Bani Hai Aaj Dakiyan
Kuhu Kuhu Mein Chitthiyan Padhe Mazakiyaan
Yeh Sarre Koyale Bani Hai Aaj Dakiyan
Kuhu Kuhu Mein Chitthiyan Padhe Mazakiyan
 Inhe Kaho Ke Na Chhupaaye
Kisne Hai Likya Bataye, Uski Aaj Mein Nazar Utaar Loon
 Sawaar Loon Sawaar Loon
 Sawaar Loon Haye Sawaar Loon
Hawa Ke Jhonke Aaj Mausamo Se Rooth Gaye
Gulon Ki Shookhiyaan Jo Bhawre Aa Ke Loot Gaye
Badal Rahi Hai Aaj Zindagi Ki Chaal Zara

Aloe Vera for Hair Care

Aloe Vera for Hair Care

Aloe Vera for Hair Care
Hair problems like hair loss or thinning, frizziness, dryness or oiliness; scalp conditions, such as dandruff or scaly, are very common each day. To deal with all these hair related issues, you can rely on a natural ingredient, which is known for its 75 known nutrients, called aloe vera. Aloe vera is known for its hair care properties and has been used as an ingredient in many hair care products like shampoos and conditioners. It is considered as a perfect alternative to commercial hair products as it is known to work wonders in promoting shine and moisture in hair, and preventing hair loss.

Here are some points that elaborate why aloe vera is recommended for hair care. So, if you can easily find some aloe, use it for gorgeous and healthy looking hair.

1) Promotes Hair Growth
Aloe vera contains natural enzymes called proteolitic that help in removing dead skins present on the scalp, which clog the hair follicle and prevent penetration of nutrients in the hair. University of Hawaii researchers stated that we can trace the use of aloe vera for hair loss back to the ancient Egyptians. These enzymes also promote healthy hair growth.
Aloe vera is also used to cure other hair problems also, such as seborrhea, which occurs from an accumulation of sebum on the scalp that may also result in partial baldness. Aloe vera’s keratolic action helps in breaking down the sebum and removing dead scalp cells, allowing for further hair growth. It also lessens the effects of Alopecia and the alkalizing properties of aloe vera bring the scalp’s pH to a desirable level helping the hair retain water and moisture.

2) Anti-dandruff Properties
The natural enzymes (proteolitic) present in aloe vera help in treating dandruff by breaking down of dead skin cells present on the scalp.  Aloe vera also helps to boost blood circulation in the scalp, which stimulates the production of moisturizing oils, eliminating the dryness and itchy feeling that causes dandruff. It also keeps hair’s natural oils in balance to prevent excessively oily or dry scalp.

3) Nourishing Shampoo
Aloe vera is loaded with all the essential vitamins and minerals that promote hair growth. To deliver its nourishing properties, you may add aloe vera gel to your regular shampoo and make a revitalizing shampoo to restore hair’s strength & beauty. For experiencing best results, you can also combine aloe vera gel with coconut milk and essential oils. It will prevent hair loss and promote new hair growth.

4) Natural Conditioner
Aloe vera is considered as a natural conditioning agent for hair. It helps in restoring hair’s shine and softness. The conditioning properties of aloe vera improve strength and suppleness of your hair. Aloe vera gel has a similar chemical composition of keratin, the naturally occurring protein in hair cells, which allows for easier penetration in the hair and combats frizziness.

Aloe vera can restore the proper balance on your scalp. Now, you can say goodbye to expensive commercial products and ineffective hair treatments. Use your own remedy, aloe vera for healthy hair.
